Curtis Woodhouse has announced his retirement from boxing with immediate affect. The 34-year-old has called time on his career for the second time, but insists there will be no change of heart with nothing left for him to prove in the sport. Woodhouse initially retired from the sport in February this year after beating Darren Hamilton to fulfil his ambition and a promise to his father to become British champion. Lured back into the ring with the prospect of adding the Commonwealth crown to his Lonsdale Belt, Woodhouse was beaten by Willie Limond in Glasgow last month, a fight he now says will definitely be his last. "That's definitely it for me now, I'm going to retire from boxing happy that I achieved everything I set out to achieve," Woodhouse told the Mail. "It was hugely disappointing to lose my belt, but I lost it how I would have wanted to and that wasn't on my stool, but going out fighting, just as I won it. "It's been a roller coaster, there's been ups and downs, but it's been an amazing ride and one that I have loved. "There's nothing to keep me going now because I know I'm not going to be a world champion and I've won the belt I wanted. I don't need to climb the ladder again to try and win that belt again." Woodhouse retires with a record of 22 wins in 29 fights and as a former English and British champion, a remarkable feat for the former Premier League footballer. See Saturday's Mail for an extended interview with Curtis Woodhouse looking back at his remarkable career.
