SHANNON McDonnell has thanked the Hull FC fans for their support after speaking about his exit from the club for the first time.
The 26-year-old last week agreed a deal with St Helens until the end of the season after resigning from his Hull FC contract earlier this year.
McDonnell took to social media to thank the Hull fans having been sent best wishes following the news of his switch to Saints.
"Thanks to the fans for all the support, loved playing for them and the club and FC was really something I believed in," wrote McDonnell.
"Was out of my control with what happened and the truth is yet to be told and this is the first time I have commented on the matter but I wish the players all the best for the rest of the season."
McDonnell is moving on with his rugby league career and will hope to impress enough at Saints to either earn a longer deal or secure his future at another Super League club for next season.
Despite moving on from Hull, the Australian full-back is still pursuing his court case for wrongful dismissal, with the two parties set to meet in court later this year or early next year.
Having not played since last year's Challenge Cup semi-final win for Hull over Warrington, McDonnell says he's looking forward to getting back on the field again.
"I am keen to get training and playing and I will get my head down and take each game as it comes," said McDonnell on his Saints move.
"I'm pleased to be part of this club. This is a good opportunity for me to come and play rugby league again."
