A WORKMAN has suffered burns after an underground electricity cable was accidentally cut in Ferensway, Hull city centre, say police.
It is understood the man had been working close to Stanley's Brasserie, opposite Mercure Hull Royal Hotel, when the accident happened shortly before 9am today.
All three emergency services attended the scene.
Humberside Police announced on Twitter: "Officers are supporting Yorkshire Ambulance Service and Humberside Fire and Rescue at an industrial incident on Ferensway in Hull.
"Maintenance work requiring excavations has resulted in electricity cabling being severed.
"The scene is being made safe before emergency personnel resume."
Stanley's Brasserie has had to close for the day, because of damaged caused to the building.
Owner James Stockdale said: "We have sustained some damage to the outside of the building and we have had to close after police cordoned off the path outside our restaurant. A part of the path has been blown open.
"Apparently it was quite a loud explosion and there was a flash fire. The most important thing is that the man has only sustained slight burns. He was very lucky."
The workman has now been discharged from hospital.
