Hull FC enjoyed a less than triumphant return to the KC Stadium as Warrington Wolves claimed a 24-18 victory.
A second successive hat-trick for Callum Lancaster had threatened to help Hull to victory, but defensive errors and the clinical finishing of the visitors ensured they left with the spoils.
Having weathered early Warrington pressure Hull got their noses in front thanks to the Wolves ill-discipline and Jordan Abdull's penalty.
Abdull was having an influence in attack and it was his guile that provided the first try, with a perfectly weighted chipped kick down the touchline setting Callum Lancaster away to score in the corner. While Abdull couldn't convert, the two 17-year-olds had combined to give Hull both a memorable try and a six-point lead.
The visitors pulled level when poor defending allowed Matty Russell to race 60 metres and Stefan Ratchford to score. While a Joe Westerman penalty briefly gave Hull the advantage again, Ryan Atkins' converted late try ensured the Wolves led by four points at the break.
Four became six when Chriss Bridge kicked a penalty, but Hull were not done and neither was Lancaster, taking Danny Houghton's cut-out pass to score in the corner. Westerman missed the conversion but it mattered little.
Ben Harrison's try moments later put the Wolves back in the ascendency and when Gene Ormsby crossed the game was lost for the hosts. All that was left was for Lancaster to score a consolation try in the dying minutes, but one he'll remember on his home debut.
