If his parents are anything to go by Rolan Bolan has a great musical career ahead of him.

His late father is a certain Marc Bolan, frontman of T-Rex, while his mother is the Grammy-nominated Motown songwriter Gloria Jones.

Although Rolan was just 18 months old when his father was killed in a car crash, he has vowed to continue his father's musical legacy and will soon release his highly anticipated debut album.

Rolan, who was born in London, but moved to his mother's home in Los Angeles in the late 1970s after his father died, admits he has few memories of his dad, only the music and legacy that he left behind.

He said: "My grandparents bought me a 45 record player for my kindergarten graduation and gave me a bunch of dad's records to play.

"I always thought it was cool and the music actually triggered a few memories of hearing those songs and being with my dad before he died.

"As I grew older in a musical household, photographs of him were all around, and his spirit was always right there.

"It got to the point in my childhood where I thought everyone else's parents were rock stars."

A defining moment for Rolan, who performs an acoustic set in Hull tomorrow, was when Def Leppard incorporated a clip of (Bang A Gong) Get It On in their Rocket video.

"That was the first time I experienced my dad physically moving on film," he said.

"It was great to learn just how much his music meant to people back when he was touring and recording, and I'm thrilled to see that later generations have enjoyed and been inspired by it just as much.

"I'm dedicated to celebrating the legacy of my parents, respecting my past while making the music I am passionate about and enjoying the future of where I'm going in my life as an artist."

Rolan is emerging as a rock and soul artist and over the past few years has forged an exciting studio chemistry with veteran producer Dito Godwin, whose back catalogue includes Black Sabbath, No Doubt and members of Kiss and Motley Crew.

The two have been recording electric and acoustic versions of Rolan's debut album and the acoustic show in Hull is the chance to hear some of that material.

"The magic Dito and I have is based on the fact he knows my voice and knows me as a person," said Rolan.

"My dad still has a huge multi-generational fan base, and I get a lot of pressure from people to sound like him. But I'm here standing on my own, creating my own sound and I'm ready to start getting more material out there."Rolan BolanWhen: Tomorrow, from 7pmWhere: The Sailmakers Arms, High Street, HullEntry:£6Call: 01482 701745
