FLY-TIPPING is on the decline across Bransholme and Kingswood, according to new figures.
The statistics, released by Hull City Council, indicates the average number of fly-tips per month is 34 – slightly under the overall city average.
For the month of May, there were 27 cases of tipping this year, compared with 30 last year and 37 in May 2012.
Councillors and residents have welcomed the news.
Bransholme East councillor Peter Clark said: "It is dropping slightly and there is still much work to do, but overall this is pleasing news to receive.
"There have certainly been problems in the past, but these latest figures suggest things are improving.
"We are better than other parts of the city and it is improving all the time.
"We want our estates to be as clean as possible for people to live on and children to play on.
"The last thing we want is a minority of people ruining it for others."
The figures do not include fly-tips that are seen and removed by street cleansing crews as part of their normal daily tasks.
The report shows 17 per cent of all reported fly-tips are not there when the council go to collect it, or are in private gardens.
Resident Ben Smith, 39, said: "There is still a lot of fly-tipping about, without a doubt.
"But the fact it is grad- ually coming down is good news.
"There are many good residents on the estate and they all deserve to live in a clean environment."
Despite the decrease in the amount of fly-tipping, the overall weight of it has increased by 25 per cent across the city.
In 2012-13, there were 343 tonnes fly-tipped, compared with 429 tonnes in 2013-14.
The council also says more volunteers are coming forward to clear waste before the authority gets there.
Councillor Anita Harrison said: "This is really good news.
"The vast majority of people in Bransholme are committed to clean estate to live in.
"It hasn't come down by a lot but it has come down and that is the important thing at the end of the day.
"There are 20 per cent more volunteers in Bransholme than anywhere else in the city and we're all working hard."
