A HOUSING group has joined the fight against crime in a Hull estate by donating cash towards anti-burglary alarms.

Riverside has given Hum- berside Police £900 to fit alarms for residents in Redmire Close, North Bransholme.

It comes after police officers and councillors held a crime-prevention scheme in the street last Thursday.

Dave Daniels, area board member at Riverside, said: "This is an excellent opportunity for us to work with our partners at Bransholme police station to help reduce the number of crimes in the area we live.

"We attended properties with the police last week to see how the alarms are fitted.

"Any deterrent against burglary is more than worthwhile."

A number of alarms have been fitted across the estate following a spike in shed and garage burglaries since the turn of the year.

PC Steve Morris, of Humberside Police, said: "It is great we have been able to work with Riverside housing group to get these alarms fitted to their properties.

"This will, hopefully, reduce the likelihood of a crime being committed, as well as making the tenants of Redmire Close feel more secure in their own homes."

The Mail reported in January how crime had increased by almost 10 per cent across Bransholme and Kingswood between 2012 and last year.

Most notably, figures revealed thefts from motor vehicles had increased by almost 90 per cent.

Carol Branton, of Redmire Close, said: "I am really grateful to Riverside and the police for enabling these alarms to be fitted to my door and windows, as well as my shed.

"I feel a lot happier that my home and garden possessions are more safe and secure against potential burglars."
