North Ferriby United manager Billy Heath believes his squad will take their intensive style of play to a new level next season.

Ferriby finished second in the Conference North table and narrowly missed out on promotion through the play-offs last time around.

Known for their work rate and intensity, Heath was complimented on the way his side played at a recent meeting of league managers and chairmen.

And he intends to play the same way next season when he hopes to win promotion to the Conference for the first time in the club's history.

"We are better placed this season to cope with our high intensity style," Heath told the Mail.

"At the recent meeting at Celtic Manor, all the managers said they couldn't handle it.

"It served us very well last season and we'll be playing the same way next season.

"I see no reason why we should change things.

"Maybe if we had finished fifth from bottom, we would have to change the way we played. But the squad we have assembled going into the new season will be able to take that intensity to a higher level.

"To play as we do, we need to keep the players fit."

Heath has brought in five new faces over summer, including experienced midfielder Adam Bolder and striker Tom Corner.

Heath's side will start pre-season knowing they have to be more adaptable during games if things aren't going to plan.

Last season they were the surprise package in Conference North as few sides knew how they would play.

But it will be different this time as teams will know exactly what made Ferriby a success.

Heath appreciates his men need to evolve and, with the personnel he has at his disposal, he is confident of making that possible.

"We need to be able to change the way we play if we have to," he explained.

"We played 4-4-2 last season, but we maybe need to look at playing 4-3-3 at times.

"We now have the players in our squad to give us more variation.

"Don't get me wrong, we had that last season, but we played 4-4-2 because it suited us.

"During pre-season we will take a look at playing 4-3-3 because we are no longer an unknown quantity like we were last season.

"Adam Bolder will be a great signing for us as he keeps the ball really well, as does Jonathan D'Laryea.

"The new season will be much tougher than it was last time and we have to be ready when the first whistle goes."
