A GROUP of five youths who broke into allotments and damaged 22 sheds are making amends with plot-holders.

After speaking with those affected, Humberside Police chose to deal with the youths using a Community Resolution.

The youths all admitted the offence, which happened in April at allotments off Clough Road.

PCSO Dawn Brown then asked the plot-holders if they would allow the youths to put right the damage.

A force spokesman said: "Initially, there was some reticence in letting the youths come back on to the allotments but Dawn was able to persuade those victims of crime that the lads had been remorseful and wanted to work on the plots.

"After agreement from all parties, Dawn introduced the lads to some of the allotment holders.

"After some initial anger from the plot-holders they explained why it was so hurtful that their property had been destroyed.

"The lads' bravado quickly went and they apologised for their actions."

The group spent four hours, planting, weeding, filling in potholes and painting. In total, they will give 16 hours each to the allotments.
