A second protest to keep Beverley's infamous cobbles in Saturday Market will take place this Sunday, January 6.
The Save Our Setts Campaign has been launched by the Beverley Action Group to protest East Riding Council's plans to remove the coblesetts.
Hundreds turned out for a march through the town centre on Saturday, December 22, to show their anger at the council's future plans.
As part of a £2.5m renovation of Saturday Market, the council intends to replace the cobbles with block paving, cut parking spaces, widen pavements and create a pedestrian area around the Market Cross. It says the changes will make the area more pedestrian-friendly.
A spokesman for the Beverley Action Group said: "Thanks to everybody for the tremendous support that we had at our SOS march on Saturday, December 22.
"For those who think campaigning doesn't make a difference then we can tell you that it does. The developers at Longcroft have shelved their scheme and the ERYC have made contact and asked for a meeting with the Civic Society on January 7 to talk about the setts."
He added: "The bulldozers are due to move in on January 14 and we must send a clear message to ERYC in advance of the meeting on January 7. Therefore we are calling on all our supporters to rally to the cause and attend another march on Sunday."
Campaigners need to meet at Market Cross at 10:45am for a march around Saturday Market, then down Toll Gavel to the council offices where an updated petition signed by nearly 800 residents will be handed to the council.
