RESIDENTS in Withernsea have been having their say on how the town's promenade should be improved.
The Withernsea and South East Holderness Regeneration Partnership held the public consultation by the Pier Towers last weekend.
Lynne Cloke was among those to give her views.
"You see different types of activities and there are a lot of joggers, so one idea is to put distance markers out and also outdoor gym equipment," she said.
"It needs more interactive things along the promenade. At the minute, you walk along the promenade and walk back again – there's nothing to do."
East Riding Council has funded architects Bauman Lyons to help them produce the improvement plan, which it is hoped will help attract the funding to deliver ideas.
Lynne's husband, Withernsea town councillor Brian Cloke, attended the event as a resident.
He said: "The consultation seemed to be generating a lot of interest.
"Among the ideas included extending the toilet facilities to add showers to encourage water sports.
"People also want to see the seafront and town to feel more close together."
Visitors to the consultation were shown initial ideas that had been collated from talking to the town council and other community groups.
Councillor Kevan Hough, chair of the regeneration partnership's Seafront Improvement Group, said among the ideas that went down particularly well was the introduction of beach huts.
He said: "It is important as many people as possible have their say and tell us what they want to see. There was a lot of support for the beach huts.
"The architect has taken the ideas and will work towards a draft plan."
The plans to improve the town's promenade are one of many projects taking place to improve Withernsea.
Work is nearing completion on a new £960,000 fishing compound in the town and more than £400,000 is being spent to create the Meridian Centre, a multi-functional community hall.
Cllr Hough said: "All these projects show the town is moving forward.
"If people see this kind of investment, there is more chance they will invest in the town.
"It also increases confidence in Withernsea."
It is hoped a plan could be in place by the end of August, although there would be another public consultation before then.
Once the plan is complete, the group will look at possible funding and grants.
