A robber has been jailed for 14 years after killing his accomplice in a motorbike crash as they tried to escape police. Neville Kitt, 30, crashed the bike into a car in Calvert Lane, west Hull, killing his friend and pillion passenger Matthew Hutchinson. The pair were fleeing after robbing Enid's News, in Anlaby Road, on October 31 last year. Hutchinson, 25, suffered severe head injuries and died a short time after the crash, which left Kitt wheelchair-bound. Kitt had been arrested three times on suspicion of riding his motorbike while drunk or on drugs in the months leading up to the crash. On each occasion, he was released on bail. He had refused to give police a blood sample on each occasion he was arrested. Judge Michael Mettyear, the Honorary Recorder of Hull and the East Riding, said: "Members of the public will be shocked you were repeatedly granted bail and so were free to commit these offences." The judge said Kitt had shown "contempt for decent people and disregard for the safety of others". Inspector Paul Sergeant, from Hull's road policing team, said: "Neville Kitt is a danger to the public and I am pleased he has been sentenced to a substantial time in prison where he will no longer pose a threat to innocent members of the public."
