A NEW £4m care home in Hedon is set to create 100 jobs. Magdalen Park Nursing Home is being built by family business Yorkare, with work set to finish in August.
It will house 64 people with dementia and health problems and feature the latest techniques to combat Alzheimer's and similar diseases.
Yorkare operations director Jonathan Garton said the jobs on offer were long-term and varied.
He said: "We're going to need nurses and carers. We will have cooks, laundry assistants, cleaners, activity co-ordinators and handymen.
"It's due to open in August but in Hedon they're starting to realise it's finishing and we've had quite a lot of interest about vacancies already."
Work by Doncaster contractors Pacy and Wheatley Construction started on the £4.15m home last summer.
It aims to offer the best therapy for dementia sufferers in East Yorkshire with live animals, a rooftop bowling green and a mock old-fashioned street featuring a pub, beauty salon and sweet shop.
The idea is to help elderly people reconnect with their youth and give visitors something to do when they come.
Mr Garton said: "In some care homes, you end up just sitting in a room but this is designed with whole families in mind.
"It will quite unusual for this area.
"We're trying to be at the forefront of care. We're raising the bar."
The home will include chickens for people to visit and there will also be a library, cinema and allotments.
The home will include a respite care room for families needing a break and will offer day services.
Two rooms will accommodate couples, with their own kitchen and lounge.
This high-end service comes at an increased price but Mr Garton said the firm would do its best to accommodate those in need.
He said: "With fees, it's quite complicated – it all depends on care needs. We go out and do a pre-assessment. It also depends on the bedroom they choose.
"Depending on their care needs, the council or the NHS can put some money in."
The family business was run by Mr Garton's parents, who ran five homes before selling them to Burlington Care six years ago.
The business has since focused on developing new accommodation from scratch and already operates a 99-bedroom site at Westfield Park in Goole.
Mr Garton said: "The new home will certainly wow everybody when they come down to see it.
"A lot of people who came to Goole thought it was a five-star hotel.
"We really wanted to get that hotel-quality standard."
Jobs will be advertised in coming weeks. Visit yorkarehomes.co.uk to find out more about the firm.
