UPDATED: Police have thanked readers for naming a man wanted in connection with an attack in Hull city centre.

The Mail published a picture this morning of a man suspected of punching a student in the face in Wright Street. Moments after confronting the student - who was taking photographs in Hull city centre for a university project - the attacker found the camera turned on him. Police are now questioning a man in connection with the incident. Detective Constable Justin Marrow, of Hull's priority crime team, praised the student's quick thinking. He said: "Despite being punched in the face, he was able to use his camera to get a photograph of the attacker."

The image was released by officers as part of the Mail's Caught on Camera campaign. We have since removed it at the request of the police.

The student, a 34-year-old man, was taking photographs of a phone box in Wright Street, city centre, on May 22, when he was confronted by the man, who allegedly demanded he hand over his mobile phone. The man and a friend ran away when a woman intervened.
