A woman has been arrested after fire broke out at a house in Belmont Street, east Hull, just hours after police discovered cannabis plants at the property.
Officers found about 20 plants yesterday evening. Two hours later, firefighters were called to a blaze in the house, which has been gutted.
A 31-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of arson. She remains in police custody.
The fire broke out at 7.45pm last night during a 24-hour strike by Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, but crews were on the scene within eight minutes of a 999 call.
Nobody was in the house when emergency services arrived. The woman was arrested nearby.
A spokeswoman for Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said: "It was quite an established fire and the house has been gutted."
Humberside Police said officers were initially called at 5.34pm to reports of damage to the house. A woman was spoken to at the scene but was not arrested. Officers found the cannabis plants inside, but left the house secure after a short time.
They were called back after the fire had broken out.
A force spokeswoman said: "We will be investigating the suspected cannabis plants and the cause of the fire."
Anyone with information should call Humberside Police on 101.
