HULL City are targeting St Johnstone goal-machine Stevie May to replace Matty Fryatt, according to The Sun. The Scotland under-21 star notched 27 goals last season in 48 appearances and looks to be a real strike threat up front. Fryatt ended the season as Hull City's top scorer in all competitions but joined Nottingham Forest on a free transfer, with the guarantee of first-team football. May, who has been tipped to jump up to the Scottish international side, has previously spent time at Alloa Athletic and Hamilton Academical on loan, continuing his goal-scoring prowess with 45 goals in 57 appearances. The 2014 Scottish Cup winners are in the Europa League, a competition which May is guaranteed to be involved in wherever he decides to move or not. But with Premier League football as the carrot, May could decide to move on and come to the Tigers. St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright hopes to keep May in Scotland for some time longer, however. "We know we'll have to give Stevie better terms but we know he wants to stay. That makes it easier," he told the Daily Record. "It's harder if you have to persuade a player. Everyone talks about his ability on the park this year but I like how Stevie's matured as a person and dealt with the attention.Maguire mulls over Tigers move THE Tigers are said to be in talks with highly-rated Sheffield United star Harry Maguire as talks begin at boardroom level. Hull City have stepped in for his signature, with Wolves now fretting over their chances of signing the defender. The City forward will lead the Croatian attack this evening and will try to halt the Brazilians alongside Mexico and Cameroon. "We have been drawn in a tough group, but in a tournament like the World Cup whatever group you are in it is going to be tough because the teams here are the best in the world and have proved that by qualifying," he told Sky Sports. "Brazil will be favourites to win the group as they are the favourites to win the tournament, but we are confident we can at least finish second and reach the next round, even though it will be difficult against Mexico and Cameroon as they are two experienced teams who are used to playing in the World Cup."Birtles praises Fryatt move AND finally, Nottingham Forest legend Garry Birtles has lauded praise on former City striker Matty Fryatt following his move to the City ground. Writing in the Nottingham Post, Birtles says Fryatt can become a leading goal-scorer at Forest from next season and beyond. "For those Nottingham Forest fans who did not get excited about the signing of Matty Fryatt, I want to make two significant observations," he wrote. "Firstly, he can be a 20-goal striker for the Reds next season. He can be the player we have been waiting to sign for years. "Secondly, they signed him on a free transfer. "If those two things added together are not reason to give Stuart Pearce a bit of a pat on the back, I don't know what would be. It is a fantastic signing. "Yes, Fryatt has had a couple of seasons where he has not been a first team regular. He picked up an Achilles injury that ended his season in 2012/13. And last season he struggled to pin down a regular starting place in the top flight with Hull. "But, despite the fact that he did not start a Premier League game – making ten appearances off the bench – and had to be satisfied with playing for the Tigers largely in the FA Cup, Fryatt still managed to score ten goals last season."
