Prominent business figures have spoken of their optimism for Hull in a Humber Business Week panel show. In a Humber Question Time special, held in Hull College's Charlotte Restaurant, six corporate leaders discussed the good and bad from the last ten years in Hull and what the next decade might hold for the city. The panel included people from a range of sectors, including For Entrepreneurs Only chief executive Jan Brumby, Humberside Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Donald, C4DI co-founder John Connolly, Hull College Group chief executive Gary Warke, Meehan Media owner John Meehan and Team Humber Marine Alliance chairman Mark O'Reilly. Mr O'Reilly said people still have not fathomed the scale of offshore wind opportunities coming to the region. He said: "The announcement of the Siemens deal and the Able Marine Energy Park are huge for the region and I don't think there are many businesses which really understand the scale of what is about to happen here. "However, people are starting to take the city seriously and when we travel around Europe, people are now taking interest in the Humber." The panel also discussed the impact of the Hull's city of culture title on businesses. Mr Warke said: "There's a real sense of pride in the city now and the City of Culture status will do well for the self-esteem of people and businesses in the region." Mr Connelly said the status will have a big impact on the digital sector. He said: "It is a hugely exciting time for the digital sector and the possibilities for digital start-up businesses is brilliant here and the City of Culture is part of the reason for that."
