CAPTAIN fantastic Curtis Davies leads the way for Hull City when it comes to average ratings in this season's FA Cup. As in the Premier League campaign, he has led by example and his opening goals against Brighton and Sunderland, in the fifth and sixth rounds respectively, set the Tigers on their way to victory. Davies aside, Matty Fryatt has been City's stand-out performer in the cup this season. His average rating of 7.4 and goal tally of four mean that his inclusion in the showpiece final today will be fully justified. David Meyler is another man who has risen to the occasion. With match-settling goals in the last two rounds, his importance to the City cause cannot be overstated The men that got the ball rolling for City with goals against Middlesbrough back in the third round, Aaron Mclean and Nick Proschwitz, have long been forgotten but they have played their part on City's road to Wembley. City have conceded more possession to their opponents on just one occasion this season. That was against the only other Premier League side they have faced, Sunderland. It proved inconsequential back in March, with the Tigers cruising to a 3-0 win. They are unlikely to monopolise possession today either, and it could well be a backs-to-the-wall job. Fifty-eight minutes has been the average time of City's opening goal in the FA Cup this season, with their latest breakthrough coming against Brighton, when Yannick Sagbo equalised just five minutes from time. City fans would surely settle for such a wait against Arsenal if it proved the decisive goal. It's worth remembering that Steve Bruce's side head into the showpiece final with a 100 per cent record at Wembley. The semi-final win over Sheffield United and the play-off final success against Bristol City back in 2008 will live long in the memory for Tigers fans. A win today would eclipse both.![]()
