Tom Huddlestone wants to write his name into Hull City folklore by ending the club's 110-year wait for silverware against Arsenal on Saturday.

Having already created history with a march to a first FA Cup final, the Tigers are aiming to complete their fairytale journey by conquering the Gunners at Wembley.

Steve Bruce's men are already assured an unrivalled standing in the club's archives at the end of a groundbreaking campaign, but Huddlestone insists they will not be satisfied unless they return to East Yorkshire as FA Cup winners.

"If we were to win a trophy then it would live on for decades to come," said Huddlestone.

"There's been some unbelievable players over the years who have never been to an FA Cup final so I count myself as lucky to be in this position. There's no point getting there, though, if you're happy to take a runners-up medal.

"When you've got someone like the manager, who's won what he's won, telling you to grasp the chance and have no regrets, you take that on board.

"He's said before you know it, you'll realise it's gone unless you take your chances.

"They don't come around often so grab it with both hands. It would genuinely be a dream come true for us all."

City's date with destiny comes against the Gunners on Saturday evening when 25,000 supporters will travel to Wembley praying for another famous day.

The Tigers return to the home of English football just five weeks after beating Sheffield United 5-3 in an epic semi-final and Huddlestone is confident that experience will stand his side in good stead.

He said: "We know it's upon us now. We know this week is a massive one in our careers and the history of this club. There's a lot of excitement but equally we know we've got a job to do.

"There'll obviously be a few thoughts running through my head on Friday night, but before that you just try and treat it like a normal away game.

"We'll head down to London and try not to let the occasion take over our emotions. It is going to be difficult but you have to try and treat it as a normal game.

"There was a bit of stage fright when we were there last time but we'll be better for that experience. You only have to see how the players relished the stage in the second half of the semi."

Huddlestone, however, knows a very different challenge awaits City on Saturday. An Arsenal side that ended the Premier League season with five consecutive wins to finish fourth are the bookmakers favourites to make it three wins out of three against City this season.

A 3-0 win at the KC Stadium last month provided a sobering reminder of Arsenal's talents but for Huddlestone there was also cause for encouragement.

"In the first half against them here, we tried to go toe-to-toe with them and we could have taken the lead maybe two or three times," he said.

"Once they went in front they're one of the best at controlling a game and holding a lead. They're a tough team to play against when they get you to come out.

"We know they're going to have large periods of possession but we've got to stay disciplined and hopefully hit them on the break."
