A ROBBER who killed his accomplice in a motorbike crash is facing years in prison for a drug-fuelled rampage across Hull.

Neville Kitt, 30, was warned he will be given a "lengthy" jail term when he is sentenced next month.

Kitt crashed the motorbike in Calvert Lane, west Hull, as he and Matthew Hutchinson fled after robbing Enid's News in Anlaby Road.

Hutchinson, 25, died later in hospital.

Kitt - who will have one of his legs amputated as a result of the incident - has now admitted assaulting a paramedic who was called to the scene, threatening a post office worker with CS spray and possessing the illegal gas.

THEY were high on drugs and desperate for more.

But a few hours after Neville Kitt and Matthew Hutchinson embarked on a violent crime spree, one was dead and the other was lying seriously injured.

Kitt is now facing years in jail for the pair's drug-fuelled rampage, which led to Hutchinson losing his life in a motorbike crash as they tried to evade police.

Judge Graham Richardson told him: "A lengthy custodial term is inevitable in any event."

It was a quiet morning in Anlaby Road when the two men arrived on a motorbike just before 10am on October 31 last year.

Within minutes, chaos ensued as they threatened a woman inside the Anlaby Park Post Office with CS spray.

But after realising they would be overpowered by several customers if they tried to rob the shop, they turned their attentions to nearby Enid's News.

Behind the counter, shielded by a plastic screen, a woman was quietly awaiting the arrival of her next customer.

Instead, Kitt and Hutchinson burst into the shop, wearing motorbike helmets. Kitt went towards the counter, forcing open the screen and spraying the woman in the face.

He grabbed her and put her in a headlock as Hutchinson ran towards the counter, snatching the till drawer and a huge plastic dispenser filled with lottery scratchcards.

A huge police search was then launched to find the men, who were also suspected of carrying out two earlier assaults in Hull.

After receiving information the pair were heading towards Calvert Lane on a motorbike, police parked a car across both lanes of the road and lay in wait.

But Kitt, who was in control of the bike with Hutchinson as his passenger, was desperate to avoid capture.

He sped around the side of the police car before mounting the pavement. He then careered back on the road and into the path of an oncoming car.

The impact catapulted both Kitt and Hutchinson into the road, leaving Hutchinson with fatal head injuries. He died in hospital several hours later.

Kitt had suffered serious leg injuries but, even as he was being treated in the ambulance, he kicked out at paramedic Andrew Brayshaw Brown. The paramedic has been unable to work since.

It was revealed in court yesterday that Kitt will have his leg amputated next month, after he is sentenced for his crimes.

He admitted robbing Enid's News and causing Hutchinson's death by dangerous driving in March, but was due to stand trial yesterday for eight more offences.

Instead, he pleaded guilty to causing Mr Brayshaw Brown actual bodily harm, an affray inside the post office and possessing CS spray.

The remaining five charges – which included an aggravated burglary, possessing a claw hammer and stealing three plums from Grapevine Fruiterers Florists, all said to have been committed on the same day – will lie on file.

His pleas of not guilty to stealing box of Cheerios cereal from a petrol station in Shiptonthorpe in August last year and snatching a handbag from Kathleen Carter on October 26 will also be left on file.

Anil Murray, prosecuting, said: "The prosecution have given careful thought to this case and those pleas he has entered are acceptable. We will ask for the outstanding counts to be left on file at sentence."

Kitt's barrister Richard Littler asked for him to be sentenced yesterday, a request that was refused by Judge Richardson.

He said: "It is the issue of dangerousness that appears in flashing lights from these papers. It is going to have to be considered.

"That is what screamed out to me when I read these papers. The circumstances of the robbery caused concern, as did the death by dangerous driving, in a different way.

"I think the sentencing judge will be assisted by having what is inevitably a risk assessment in a pre-sentence report."

If Kitt is deemed to be a dangerous offender, he could face an indeterminate sentence or a prison term followed by an extended period on licence when he is eventually released.

The court heard he had previously been given an indeterminate prison sentenced after a judge ruled he posed a risk to the public.

Kitt, who has been wheelchair-bound since the crash, will be sentenced on June 18, before he undergoes surgery to amputate his injured leg.

Mr Littler said: "The defendant will sadly be having one of his legs amputated as a result of this incident. That will take place in the next four to five weeks."

Neville Kitt was jailed in 2005 for violent rampage

NEVILLE Kitt had previously been given an indeterminate prison sentence after he was deemed to pose a significant risk to the public.

Kitt was ordered to serve a minimum of two years in 2005 after forcing his way into a flat and threatening three men and a girl.

It is not clear when he was released but it is believed it would have had to be cleared by the Home Secretary.

Kitt went on the rampage in Homethorpe Flats, Homethorpe, because his girlfriend claimed one of the male residents had called her a "prostitute".

He had drunk 12 cans of Stella Artois lager and taken Valium and two doses of heroin.

The court heard he became violent after being refused entry to the flat.

He stabbed the door with a screwdriver, punched and kicked it and shouted: "I'm going to have you."

After breaking in, he started attacking the door of the bedroom where the residents were hiding.

Kitt then stabbed the screwdriver through the door. It punctured a man's lip and knocked out his tooth.

Kitt then returned to his girlfriend's flat and the victims called police.

While statements were being taken, Kitt charged back in holding a kitchen knife.

He then marched towards police officers holding the knife at "head level" and "gritting his teeth".
