WEST Hull coach Mark Hewitt praised his side's control factor after beating East Leeds 22-4.
In a game played in poor conditions, Wests kept the visitors scoreless in the second half after leading 10-4 at the break.
It took a mammoth effort from the forward pack who, despite the heavy rain, battled on throughout to keep the pace with Siddal at the top of the National Conference Premier.
Hewitt had previously spoken about how his side needed to show their mean streak, and they delivered superbly, with his players failing to be riled by the arm wrestle.
"It was a very physical game and one that we really expected it to be," he told the Mail.
"Our forwards will know how hard it was when they try getting out of bed this week.
"But I've got to give credit to the whole team for sticking in there for 80 minutes and not allowing East Leeds back into the game.
"Our players showed great restrain by not getting drawn into the arm wrestle with a bigger side."
Sam Cator put in a stand-out performance in the second row, and gave Wests the lead in the 21st minute as he proved too hot to handle with a try.
The visitors replied on the half hour through substitute Johnny Carter, but his try went unconverted and Wests took full advantage.
Just three minutes later, Joshua Hart scooted over from the wing but the extras were too difficult. However, Wests took the 10-4 scoreline at the interval, and after the break, it was all about the home side.
Brett Turner made his way off the bench to stake his claim for a starting spot with a try ten minutes into the second half.
And to round off proceedings, full-back Matthew Plummer got in on the act with ten minutes to spare to score his third try of the campaign.
The win came at a slight cost, with Sam Radford (knee), James Garmston (hip) and Scott Partis (knee) all picking up problematic injuries.
However, the win saw Wests keep pace at the top of the league, and they begin their Conference Challenge trophy quest at the end of the month with a trip to Dewsbury Celtic.
