Adult education plan for Endeavour School site in Hull

ADULT education services are to be housed at Hull's Endeavour School site from September, it has been recommended.

A report going to the council's cabinet suggests services situated at sites across the city be brought together in one central hub at the Beverley Road site.

If agreed, Hull Training, which offers further education such as apprenticeships and other courses, would also move to the site.

The school has been earmarked for closure because of falling pupil numbers. Pupils will move to new schools this summer, although those in Year 10 will remain at Endeavour to sit their GCSEs, before it finally closes next year.

The school cost £10.6m to build, with the money coming from the council's windfall from its first sell-off of shares in Kingston Communications.

Officers say the move would mean adult education services being housed in a modern, purpose-built education facility.

Vanessa Harvey Samuel, city manager for learning and skills, said: "I'm pleased to be able to bring forward proposals which will ensure the school site will be immediately occupied by high-quality education and learning services following the closure of Endeavour High School.

"The proposals recognise the views of local people that the site should continue to be used for education and learning for the benefit of the city.

"Learners in the city will be able to study and train in a high-quality environment, which will greatly enhance their education experience."

The report recommends current provision at Raywell Street Centre, Goulton Street Business Academy, Kingston House, Bond Street and Eastfield Adult Education Centre are all moved to Endeavour from September this year.

Hull Training, which currently uses the Avenues Adult Education Centre, would move in August 2015.

Should the proposal be accepted, councillors will be asked to agree in principle to the disposal of a number of the sites that would be disused.

It is also being recommended that the Cabinet agree in principle to part of the site being sub-let for use as youth enterprise incubator units.

Sports facilities could be used for schools and the community.

A decision on the future use of the site will be made on May 19.
