James Smailes gives his verdict on the Hull FC player performances in the 44-16 defeat by Wigan at the KC Stadium. Jamie Shaul: The full-back has signed a new contract until 2018 but couldn't celebrate with a victory. At least he can be content with being Hull's best player on a miserable night. 6 Jason Crookes: The winger made a solid return to action last week having missed all the season so far, but he couldn't repeat it and struggled defensively. 4 Ben Crooks: The centre had a rough night alongside his namesake as Wigan ran through the pair to score. 4 Kirk Yeaman: It's not been a terrific season so far for the former Great Britain man and he had a bad night at the office. Should have done better for Wigan's first try as Sarginson got the better of him. 4 Fetuli Talanoa: Finished the night with his sixth try of the season, but like his display last week there were as many good points as there were bad points and needs more consistency in a match. 5 Richard Horne: Brought back into the team for his big-game experience, the stand-off had a poor night both with the ball and in defence. 4 Jacob Miller: The scrum-half couldn't hurt Wigan with his ineffective kicking. Managed to pick out Manfredi too often rather than spot the far smaller defenders inside him. 4 Mickey Paea: The prop has lost some of the vigour and impact that saw him start the season in such impressive fashion and for Hull's sake he needs to start dominating opponents. 5 Danny Houghton: Couldn't get close to his opposite number, with Wigan dominating the ruck and playing at a pace FC couldn't live with. 5 Garreth Carvell: Having been dropped last week, the prop may find himself out the side again after a poor display. Gave away far too many penalties, but also missed tackles and lacked impact. 4 Gareth Ellis: The captain came up with a try that gave Hull some hope in the first half, but his impact was rarely felt afterwards as Hull struggled. 5 Richard Whiting: Another to return after a week off, but couldn't make his return count after seeing little action in attack and being unable to thwart Wigan's pace with the ball. 5 Joe Westerman: Showed his frustration as the points were stacked up against his side. His desire and will to win was evident and he carried the ball well. 5 Jordan Thompson: His worst display of the season, his poor attempt at a tackle on Anthony Gelling handed Wigan a try and summed up his and Hull's night. 4 Aaron Heremaia: Did little wrong in terms of mistakes but also couldn't spark anything in attack on the week his exit from the club at the end of the season was confirmed. 5 Iafeta Paleaaesina: Hull's best forward for the second successive week, the former Wigan man skittled defenders and drove the ball in well. 6 Josh Bowden: Struggled to make an impact playing in a back that was on the back foot from early on in the game. 5
