A driver who hit a pedestrian and drove off was caught because their registration was written on the road in chalk.
The man was crossing the junction between Alexandra Road and Newland Avenue when he was hit by a white Kia car.
He was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary for treatment to minor injuries after the accident at 4.30pm on Wednesday.
The driver of the car stopped briefly, but drove away without leaving any details.
It is believed an onlooker wrote the car's registration in chalk on the road to give to police.
Traffic officers were able to locate the car later that evening.
A spokesman for Humberside Police said: "Police traced the vehicle allegedly involved in the collision and have spoken to the driver."Any witnesses should call Humberside Police on 101.
