LEE Radford has admitted the inconsistent form of Hull FC is making his recruitment decisions for next year even tougher.
With the passing of the May 1 anti-tampering deadline, Hull are now able to officially approach out-of-contract players for next season.
The Black and Whites were also obliged to inform all their out-of-contract players whether they plan to offer them a new contract for 2015.
Unlike in previous seasons, Hull don't have a long list of players out of contract, with Richard Horne, Jay Pitts, Liam Kent, Aaron Heremaia and the forgotten man in Shannon McDonnell the most high profile names.
However, looking to strengthen his squad further, it is the inconsistent form of those under contract that is also concerning Radford as he and Football Manager Motu Tony begin their recruitment in earnest.
"We are at the stage of the year where every day I'm on the phone to the man above me talking about recruitment," Radford told the Mail.
"It's really difficult because you have a bloke who plays really well one week and poor the next.
"How do you decide to put a line through that bloke or give them another opportunity when they are doing that?"
Hull are understood to have made signing another high-profile prop one of their priorities, while a further addition to the halves could well transpire, with Horne and Radford set to make a decision later this year on the future of the veteran stand-off.
Having already shown he's prepared to drop his first-team regulars, Radford will be hoping his players show an increased desire to impress tomorrow as Hull bid to put their Wakefield display behind them with a win over champions Wigan.
Horne returns to the squad for the KC Stadium clash, replacing Jordan Rankin, who has paid the price for the Black and Whites' poor showing against the Wildcats.
Dean Hadley also drops out of the squad for the crunch match and is joined on the sidelines by the injured Chris Tuson (hamstring).
Wigan have injury problems of their own and Shaun Wane's side will arrive at the KC missing a host of familiar faces.
Matt Bowen and Liam Farrell are added to the Warriors growing list of absentees ahead of the Champions trip to Hull tomorrow.
Bowen and Farrell picked up injuries in Wigan's defeat to Leeds Rhinos last week and joins captain Sean O'Loughlin, Eddy Pettybourne, Ben Flower, Iain Thornley, Josh Charnley, Ryan Hampshire and Greg Burke on the side-lines.
