Manchester United team news | HDM Sport on Facebook Neither player will be pushed to feature in tonight's trip to Manchester United, but both have been pencilled in to make comebacks against Everton in the final game of the Premier League season on Sunday.
That would give both players the chance to stake a claim for a place against Arsenal at Wembley six days later and Bruce is optimistic both McGregor and McShane will be in his plans.
McGregor's imminent return is a particular surprise. Although Bruce has never been willing to rule out the Scotland international, it was feared the kidney damage suffered in the 2-1 loss at West Ham United on March 26 would almost certainly end his season.
"The way McGrgeor is and the way he's flying around, it's quite remarkable really," said Bruce. "I think he might be available for Sunday against Everton.
"It's six or seven weeks ago that he had three broken ribs and a half ripped kidney. He's doing everything he can. I wouldn't be surprised if he put himself up for Sunday.
"He came down to the hotel on Friday (before losing 3-1 at Aston Villa) and trained when we got down there.
"He then trained Saturday morning so he's doing everything he can. Why wouldn't he? It's the FA Cup final and you don't get there very often."
Understudy Steve Harper has performed well during a six-game run in the first team and will retain his place at Old Trafford tonight, but Bruce has always favoured McGregor since his arrival from Besiktas.
"It's one of those where Allan's either going to be fit or he's not going to be fit," added Bruce.
"If he's comfortable diving on his ribs, which he seems to be, then why not? He's as tough as they come. We'll leave it to him. If he declares himself fit, then great. Then I've got a decision to make."
Bruce's options will be enhanced further by the likely availability of McShane. The fans' favourite played 45 minutes in a behind closed doors game at Leeds United on Friday, showing no ill-effects of the ankle ligament damage that has kept him out since mid-February.
McShane's return is a timely one following the hamstring injury that has cast doubt over James Chester's hopes of featuring at Wembley and, like McGregor, the Irishman will hope to promote his claims against Everton on Sunday.
"We'll let him train all week and hastily try and get a game somewhere," said Bruce. "It's difficult but hopefully he can get some sort of football in him. If he comes through that then the weekend might be okay for him too."
Chester underwent scans on his latest hamstring strain yesterday and though a definitive answer has not yet been forthcoming, there appears to be little hope of a swift return.
Sone Aluko is another that will not feature against either Manchester United or Everton following his twisted ankle but is rated as an outside chance to be back in time for the FA Cup final.
