A GROUP of mysterious girls and guys have been invited on stage to sing with pop-singing heart-throb Peter Andre.

Helen Garnett, of the Hull-based Hot Gospel choir, admits she thought it was a wind-up when the group was approached by the pop singer's assistant tour manager.

They received an email, asking the choir to sing two songs on stage when Peter performs at the Doncaster Dome on Saturday, January 19, as part of his Up Close & Personal tour.

"It came completely out of the blue," said Helen.

"I'm not sure how he heard about us. We recently won the local Children in Need singing competition.

"There are also quite a few performances from us on the internet.

"It is a huge milestone for us and, as you can probably guess, we all like Peter Andre. He's a very good singer.

"Some of the choir members have already booked facials."

Peter, the former husband of glamour model Katie Price, tasted chart success with the hit Mysterious Girl – which reached No 2 in the charts in 1996 and No 1 on its reissue in 2004.

The stop-off in Doncaster is part of his 31-date UK tour.

The choir will provide backing vocals for two of his tracks – Unconditional and Thank You.

The choir has also been promised the opportunity to meet and greet the singer prior to the performance.

Helen said: "The songs we will be performing are moving, lovely songs, which I am sure Hot Gospel can do justice.

"It should be really good as the venue will be packed.

"I'm sure we would be open to offers to join Peter for the remainder of his tour.

"We would, of course, need our own tour bus with tea and coffee making facilities."

Hot Gospel was set up in Hornsea in 2004 as something for the community to get involved in.

In March, the choir decided to become more professional and increase the publicity.

There are now 16 members, all of whom are Christians and professional singers.

The choir holds auditions twice yearly, and their members range from 25 to 50 years old.

Helen said: "Our vision is that as a funky professional modern gospel choir, we will have access to places which may otherwise be unreachable by many Christian ministries, such as pop festivals, singing workshops, weddings, shopping centres and football stadiums.

"Performing with Peter will give us national publicity.

"We are looking at organising a mini European tour and have been booked for the Last Night Of The Proms at the Driffield Showground."
