A WOMAN could face jail if she enters a city shopping centre after being abusive towards staff and shoppers.

Sherrie Marsters, 25, has been given an antisocial behaviour order (Asbo) banning her from entering St Stephen's shopping centre.

PC Russell Moore, antisocial behaviour officer for Hull, said: "She is yet another one of the city centre drunks who cause problems.

"She is perfectly nice when sober but, when she is drunk, she turns into a beer monster, shouting and swearing in front of members of the public.

"People want to go into town to enjoy themselves and see their family and friends, not to have aggressive people like this in their face.

"As the police, we are used to dealing with people who behave like this, but it can be very frightening for members of the public. They shouldn't have to put up with it."

Marsters, of no fixed address, was jailed in September for stealing alcohol from Tesco in St Stephen's.

On September 14, she was arrested after being abusive to police officers in Margaret Moxon Way, city centre, and smashing a window at Paragon Station, city centre.

The two-year order was made at Hull Magistrates' Court following an application by Humberside Police.

If she breaches the order, she could face up to five years in prison.

PC Moore said: "She has recognised she has a problem and has accepted the Asbo, so we hope this one will work.

"It will give her clear boundaries that will hopefully prevent further problems. This order is about protecting the public from her behaviour.

"People like this spoil the city centre for everybody."

Marsters was also arrested in June after shouting and swearing in St Bedes Court, west Hull, after an argument that began in a house spilled out on to the street.

In May, she was given a fixed penalty ticket for swearing at security staff in St Stephen's.

Anyone who sees Marsters breaching the order should call Humberside Police on 101.
