Church groups to take part in child safety class
EAST YORKS: A day-long event for church groups across the county is to take place to raise awareness of how to keep children and young people safe.
The event, organised by East Riding Safeguarding Children Board, in partnership with the Church Child Protection Advisory Service and East Riding Voluntary Action Services, will take place at the Mercure Grange Hotel, in Willerby on Saturday, October 5.
The day will cover topics such as how to deal with concerns or allegations of abuse, when to refer, making groups safer, safeguarding policies and safe recruiting.
The East Riding Safeguarding Children Board will present a seminar that will deal with the role of the board, managing allegations locally, the role of the church safeguarding officer and current high-profile issues and concerns.
The seminar costs £19.50, which includes a buffet lunch.
Anyone interested in attending or finding out more information should call Detty Tyler on 01482 871077.
EAST YORKS: Six new trailer-mounted pumps designed to tackle flooding are to be installed across the county.
The pumps, which cost about £150,000 in total, will be placed at each of East Riding Council's six depots in Beverley, Bridlington, Goole, Hedon, Market Weighton and Willerby, but will be mobilised around the region as necessary.
All six pumps working together are capable of emptying the equivalent of 10,000 bath tubs in one hour.
The pumps have been welcomed by Goole MP Andrew Percy.
He said: "This is all part of a wider scheme to tackle flooding in our area."
