A personal trainer has helped a morbidly obese woman shed more than 6st for the Sky television show Fat – The Fight Of My Life. John Cammish, who works for Your Next Level Fitness in Hessle, helped Leanne Probert lose 6st 5lb.
The 28st 2lb mum was featured on Fat – The Fight Of My Life and John was contacted by programme makers to help train her.
John, 30, of Gipsyville, said: "I have got a lot of clients on my website, who lost lots of weight, so I think that is why the programme makers contacted me. Leanne lives in Barnetby in North Lincolnshire, so I was driving over there four days out of five so I could train her. I had to go into her house and root through her cupboards and basically be the food police."
John says training Leanne was difficult at first, because she was not prepared for what lay ahead.
He said: "Normally clients come to me because they are ready to lose weight and change. But I don't think Leanne was quite ready, so she was procrastinating a little. It was hard to get into the routine – we were doing two-hour sessions a day."
Leanne had been eating a lot of takeaways and would take her kids to school, before sleeping through the day, collecting them from school, and eating takeaways and drinking late at night.
John said: "Her environment was quite a big thing, so it was about getting her to change all that. The first thing was to get her to eat a proper breakfast as soon as she got up. When she was doing the exercise, she was less lethargic through the day, so then she wasn't sleeping when the children were at school."
John trained Leanne for eight months last year, but the programme was recently aired on Sky Living. It has been popular with many female followers, as the show is fronted by handsome Jessie Pavelka.
John said: "Jessie met her and went to her house and then I would be left to do the training with her. The programme would catch up with her every two months and she'd be set tasks to see how far she had come. But I was actually on the programme a lot – some of the other trainers you only saw for a few seconds, but I was in the show quite a bit."
John has been featured in magazines before, but this was his first time in front of television cameras.
He said: "It was a bit intimidating having a massive camera in front of your face. But then you get used to it and you do what you would normally do.
"It was more hearing my own voice on television when it was aired that was weird. I had so many texts, missed calls and Facebook messages afterwards."
Leanne and John still keep in regular contact and she has now broken away from her husband, as she was not happy in her marriage.
John said: "She is working a bit now and her energy levels are up and she has a new routine now. It has been great to see her change so much for the better."
