Hull KR have agreed a deal with Wakefield which will see former star Ben Cockayne return to the club next season, the Mail can reveal. It comes as the Wakefield Wildcats seek to cut their costs and trim their squad, as the new management team looks to recover a £400,000 deficit.
Hull KR chairman Neil Hudgell said at the club's player of the year awards last night that an announcement of the next signing for 2014 should be imminent.
The Mail, which first revealed Rovers' interest in bringing Cockayne back on July 3, believes he is the player in question.
Rovers have made two bids for the player, who has a year remaining on his deal with the Wildcats. A first offer, which was a player swap plus a small fee, was rejected by the club and dismissed by coach Richard Agar as 'not serious'.
However, a second bid, believed to be around £30,000, has now been accepted, and Cockayne's return will be announced once his terms with the Robins have been signed and sealed.
