A CD recorded at Fruit Trade Music studios to showcase the music of 14 Hull bands is being released to celebrate the venture's first anniversary.

The CD, called Cultur'ull, is also supporting Hull's bid to be named UK City of Culture 2017.

It is the brainchild of Malcolm Scott at Fruit Trade Music and blends rock, indie and raw blues.

Malcolm's aim was to demonstrate the talent Hull has to offer, tying in with the Made in Hull theme that is a key strand of the city's culture bid.

He said: "Each of these performers and each of these bands could be put on any stage, anywhere in the world, to showcase how good this region's musical talent is.

"I would be delighted to rely on any one of them to represent this region anywhere."

The bid is due to be submitted to the Government at the end of this month.

Councillor Steven Bayes, the portfolio holder managing its application, said he was impressed with the work.

"This CD is another example of the fabulous artistic work made in Hull," he said.

"It celebrates the marvellous range of bands and artists who are helping to breathe new life into the city's old Fruit Market in Humber Street by choosing to record at Fruit Trade Music.

"Hull has always been a rich source of inspiration for musicians – whether they were born or studied here or came to entertain us."

Malcolm spent six months listening to musicians who came through his studios before deciding which ones he wanted to feature on the CD.

After a recording session that started in March, the CD will go on sale for £5 at this weekend's Freedom Festival.

It will then be available at charity shops, trade and retail outlets and from Fruit Trade Music.
