200 people apply for 30 jobs at Aldi supermarket in Beverley

A JOBS rush has been sparked by the multi-million-pound new Aldi supermarket, which is set to open in Beverley next month.

More than 200 people have applied for jobs at budget supermarket chain Aldi, which is set to open in Swinemoor Lane.

The supermarket, which has been built at the site of a former car showroom, is due to open on Thursday, September 26.

More than 30 jobs are being created at the 900sq m store.

Aldi said the company is excited about the move to the town, where it has been looking to open a store for a several years.

A spokesman said: "The new store will provide about 35 jobs for local residents and we have been impressed by the level of interest shown in the employment opportunities available.

"We have received more than 200 applications for various roles and the recruitment process is still ongoing."

The store is one of seven opening across Yorkshire.

Aldi's spokesman said: "Our investment in the build of this new store has reached more than £3.5m and its opening will bring to a close three years' work from when the site was first identified at the end of 2010.

"As we continue our expansion plans in the East Riding we will actively pursue viable opportunities made available to us, investing further money into the area and providing more jobs.

"We look forward to bringing shoppers brand-like quality products at everyday low prices."
