A POPULAR Hull pizza parlour has been given a damning score after a visit by environmental health inspectors.
Square Pan Pizza, in Spring Bank, was given a score of zero following a visit by the Hull City Council inspectors in July.
The council uses the Food Standards Agency system to rate food businesses from zero to five, with zero being in urgent need of improvement and five meaning the premises is very good. The details of the inspection are not clear and the poor rating could be down to a failure to provide documentation.
Several takeaways in the west Hull area have been given zero ratings.
These include BK Kubus, also in Spring Bank, which was inspected in June, Mustafas Restaurant, in Anlaby Road, which was also inspected in June, West Hull Continental Takeaway, in Hessle Road, which was inspected in July and Khantucky Grilled Chicken, in Hessle Road, which was also inspected in July.
Those establishments in a particularly bad state can be prosecuted and either shut down, fined or both.
In June, Pizza Max, in Spring Bank, was fined for serving mouldy, rotten food to customers.
Owner Daljit Singh Mahi was fined £1,350, while his company was ordered to pay £800.
But many places bounce back from a poor hygiene rating.
The Laundry, in Princes Avenue, originally received a zero score for hygiene.
But the restaurant was recently awarded four out of five after being reassessed by Hull City Council's environmental health officers.
The restaurant's manager, Sarah Silk, insisted the poor score was not down to poor hygiene practice but because a manual had not been obtained.
Businesses are encouraged to display stickers which provide information fro customers on the latest food hygiene score and when the inspection took place.
