PETER Gentle says Hull FC are intent on repaying the fans for their Challenge Cup disappointment by doing something special in the play-offs.
Admitting Hull cannot make up for their Wembley woes, the Black and Whites' coach is adamant Super League can still be a source of success.
While their top-eight place is guaranteed, Hull face a difficult route to Old Trafford.
And although Gentle is making no promises, he is eager to see pride restored amongst Hull fans.
He told the Mail: "We know we have let everyone down. But letting everyone down is extra motivation this week. There is a real feeling we need to get out there and start doing things right.
"We cannot set things right in the cup because we've blown that. What we can do is something special in the other competition."
Hull will attempt to get over the agony of their abject display at Wembley when they meet the new cup holders in Wigan tomorrow night. It's a must-win game for the Black and Whites if they are to stay in contention for a home tie in the play-offs.
Currently sat seventh, Hull need a win to draw level with sixth-placed Catalan.
While admitting the determination to seal a top-six finish is stronger than ever, Gentle says there is also a real desire to achieve in the play-offs no matter where Hull eventually find themselves.
"We are in the semi-finals regardless of the next two weeks. If we can pick up a couple of wins we can hopefully get a home game, if not we'll travel but we need to learn from the final," he added.
While Wigan have given half of their cup-winning side the week off, Hull have made several changes themselves as their final loss is compounded by a series of injuries.
Prop Andy Lynch will not play again
before the play-offs, with captain Gareth Ellis also unlikely to feature until the knock-out games because of a rib injury.
Mark O'Meley is awaiting results from a scan on his ankle and will also miss the trip to Wigan, and with Aaron Heremaia and James Cunningham suspended, Gentle has been forced to freshen up his squad with an injection of youth.
"We are a bit light," added Gentle. "But Liam Kent, Josh Bowden, Paul Johnson and Dean Hadley will come into the squad.
"They've waited for an opportunity and they've got it now. They're ready for it."
