TWO people were rescued from the River Ouse after their boat was engulfed by fire.
Emergency services were called to the boat, at Blacktoft, near the junction with the Humber, just before 8am this morning, after reports it was taking on water.
Before Humber Rescue could arrive, the vessel began drifting towards Reedness, near Goole, when fire broke out.
The boat's crew managed to abandon the yacht as the flames took hold and called the fire service from their mobile phone.
Flames and smoke could be seen engulfing the yacht.
Members of Humber Rescue then helped two people from the water.
Martin Rumford, coxswain at Humber Rescue, said: "This incident serves as an illustration as to how how quickly things can escalate, leaving crew members with no option but to abandon their vessel.
"We cannot emphasise enough the need to make sure that all of your safety and communication equipment is checked and working before setting out on a journey."
