HULL City and Scotland goalkeeper Allan McGregor is targeting the perfect finale to his pre-season campaign as he plots the downfall of England at Wembley tomorrow night.
Along with City team-mate George Boyd, McGregor has teamed up with Gordon Strachan's Scotland squad ahead of the first meeting of the famous old rivals since November 1999.
McGregor, who has started three of the four games during the short reign of Strachan, will hope he gets the nod ahead of Cardiff keeper David Marshall to line up against England and City's new boy is hoping for an uplifting rehearsal for the new Premier League season.
"It's not your average friendly and it should be a good occasion," McGrgeor told the Mail.
"It's one I'm looking forward to and I'm sure both sets of players will be.
"It's a rivalry that goes back years and our biggest one.
"Playing at Wembley would be a great experience too, it's not something I've ever done before, so I just hope I get the nod.
"That'll be up to the manager (Strachan) but it's a great game for us all to look forward to.
"Because it has been such a long time it will be a big occasion for the fans and for the players.
"We will be underdogs in every sense of the word."
McGregor has wrested back the number one shirt in recent times and a notable clean-sheet in Scotland's 1-0 win away to Croatia in June may be enough for him to earn a 30th cap against England tomorrow.
The Wembley date is the first leg of a formidable double-header for McGregor in the capital this week.
As well as being firm outsiders with Scotland side travelling south of the border to England, the former Rangers and Besiktas keeper can expect another onslaught should he make his City debut at Chelsea on Sunday.
McGregor has assumed a prominent role in the Tigers' pre-season schedule and a faultless start in Saturday's 3-0 win over Real Betis confirmed him as the new incumbent of the number one shirt ahead of Steve Harper and Eldin Jakupovic.
Manager Steve Bruce will hope McGregor returns from the international scene unscathed on Thursday morning but the keeper has seen enough to suggest City are fully prepared for the Chelsea trip.
He added: "I'm sure everybody's ready. It's been a good pre-season and we're all choking to get started.
"It's been a good month. We worked on a few different things at the start and in the games it wasn't too great.
"But the last couple of games have been better and hopefully that's the type of form we can take into the start of the league.
"You shouldn't really take too much from results but it was more about the performance and the shape we played.
"It's also about what we did with and without the ball and I thought we did well in both parts of that.
"I'm not the gaffer so I'm the wrong person to ask, but the last two or three games we've been good. I'm sure it'll change over the season but it's worked well."
