TOM Lineham looks set for Challenge Cup heartache after the Hull FC winger picked up an ankle injury in the derby.

The 21-year-old, who has 17 tries to his name this season, hobbled off shortly after half-time at MS3 Craven Park and is now a major doubt for the showpiece match in less than two weeks' time.

Hull are already without two of their first-choice backs with Shannon McDonnell and Ben Crooks ruled out of the final and that list now looks like numbering three.

Lineham will be sent for scans today to ascertain the extent of the injury and his absence, but coach Peter Gentle admits it's a worry.

"We will get Tom scanned, but this is another injury to add to the list," said Gentle.

"I'm not putting a line through Tom's chances, but, it doesn't look good."

Losing Lineham would be a blow for Hull, who would bizarrely go into the cup final with their first choice right-sided three-quarter line injured, but with the two players who started the season in that role playing at Wembley.

Joe Arundel has returned to the side and found his form again after replacing Crooks, leaving the door open for Jason Crookes to feature once again should Lineham miss out as expected.

"We have Jason Crookes there ready to go and he will get an opportunity if Tom cannot play, just as Jamie Shaul got his opportunity," added Gentle.

"We pride ourselves on the depth we have in the squad this year. We tell the players to be ready in case an opportunity comes and if needed Jason will be ready.

"Jamie had to wait for his chance and he has come in and done well."

Shaul was one of six try scorers for Hull in their 38-20 victory over Rovers, reinforcing his chances of selection for the cup final.

The match also meant a happy weekend for Hull fans having already won the under-16s derby and the under-19s game in a fiery encounter that preceded the Super League fixture.

Gentle hailed the players for completing the hat-trick of wins and said: "We've got some good coaches doing some great work with the players right down to the under-16s and you can see the fruits of that."
