PETER Gentle says it's time his Hull FC side showed Hull KR just what they are made of with a performance worthy of tomorrow's derby.
Gentle concedes Hull are yet to play well in the derbies this season, having lost at home to their rivals before relying on a controversial last-minute try to edge the Magic Weekend encounter.
Admitting it is a must-win game for his side, with a chance to stabilise their play-off ambitions and climb above Rovers in the process with a win, Gentle says the determination and desire from his players is there to finally show their best form in the derby.
"We haven't been at our best when we have played them this year and that is the biggest challenge for us, to be at our best," said Gentle.
"We want to right a few wrongs, look after our fans and give them something to brag about.
"I am extremely confident about how we'll play. We are itching for this game to come around.
"They may say they want it to come around because of how the last game finished with Chris Green's try, but we have been looking forward to this too.
"We haven't been at our best against them at all this year. We want to put in a very good performance."
With two points between the sides and both harbouring hopes of a home tie in the play-offs, there is all to play for in the season's final league meeting.
Having been tipped for a top-four push this season, losing tomorrow's derby to go four points behind their neighbours and stay hovering on the brink of the play-offs is unthinkable for Hull.
Rovers, meanwhile, have turned their poor start to the season around and are on course for a possible fifth-place finish which would represent a terrific achievement in the face of much adversity this year.
Gentle says he is not surprised to see Rovers contending for a top-five finish and says Rovers have a habit of playing the paupers fighting against the odds when in reality they have a very good side.
"Every week KR come out and say they have injuries and they only have a small squad," added Gentle.
"They are a decent footy team. "Craig Sandercock has done a wonderful job in building the siege mentality there.
"They are a good team, that's why NRL clubs are coming in and pinching their players and that is why we've got Mickey Paea. End of story, they are a good team and have the best half-back in the competition.
"We don't buy into their spin and they'll probably have a few players turn up in the game who aren't named in the squad.
"Where we are in the table, we have to bring intensity out every week now and the derby will bring that out of us tomorrow."
