The mother of a young woman facing charges over the death of her sister in a car crash has welcomed the support of Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson.
Mr Clarkson said today the prosecution of Rosie-Ann Stone over the accident in which her sister Jennie was killed should be dropped because the family "has suffered enough".
And their mother Angie Stone said this afternoon Mr Clarkson's support "was such a boost".
The tragedy happened just months after the sisters' brother, Private Gregg Stone, 20, was killed by the Taliban in a daring rescue mission in June last year.
Mr Clarkson said in his Sun newspaper column: "Last year proud mum Angie Stone, from East Yorkshire, lost her son Gregg, who was killed while serving in Afghanistan.
"Then, earlier this year her beautiful daughter Jennie was killed in a car accident.
"And now, her other daughter, Rosie-Ann, is being prosecuted for causing the crash.
"Hmmm, if this were a truly civilised country, that prosecution would be dropped. Because whatever happened, whoever was to blame, this family has suffered enough."
Mother-of-one Jennie, 28, was killed minutes after dropping her son, Charlie, then aged nine, at Skipsea Primary School when her car hit a tree along the A165 at Fraisthorpe on February 18.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) says it is in the public interest to prosecute her sister, Rosie-Ann, 20, who was driving her car on the same Hull to Bridlington road at the time of the crash.
Angie, 56, of Atwick near Horsea, said her family had also been lifted by a statement issued by Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart, in which he spoke of his "regret" at the CPS decision, as well as the support of Mail readers.
