STARS of the television screen have descended on one of Beverley's oldest buildings.
The rooms at the Beverley Guildhall, which was the traditional seat of government in the town from 1501 until the late 20th century, will now be viewed by millions, as part of a period drama for the BBC.
Actors, including Trevor Eve, Matthew Rhys and Matthew Goode have been filming scenes in the Georgian courtroom of the Guildhall for the three-part drama Death Comes To Pemberley, which will air on BBC One at Christmas.
Adapted from PD James's internationally best-selling novel, the drama begins in October 1803, six years after the events of Pride And Prejudice, which resulted in the marriage of William Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet.
Origin Pictures producer Eliza Mellor said: "We were looking for a Georgian courtroom to film in and this one in Beverley was the best we saw.
"While on location in Beverley, we are filming some of the most important scenes of the drama, including the trial of George Wickham, which decides his fate.
"We've had a wonderful time filming in Yorkshire and had such a warm welcome from everyone, which we are very grateful for."
The period drama will also feature East Yorkshire actresses Eleanor Tomlinson and Anna Maxwell Martin
Eleanor, 19, of Beverley, has already started making a name for herself in the film industry, with supporting roles in movies such as Alice In Wonderland and Brit teen comedy Angus, Thongs And Perfect Snogging. She also starred in this year's Hollywood blockbuster Jack The Giant Slayer.
Former Beverley High School pupil Anna, 36, will play the part of Elizabeth Darcy in the drama.
Filming has already taken place at various locations across Yorkshire including Castle Howard, York and Harewood House, and has been supported with investment from Screen Yorkshire.
Director Eliza Mellor said: "Beverley is a lovely place. The Guildhall has been a fantastic place to film the courtroom scenes.
"We have added quite a bit of extras to the room as well, creating our very own public gallery, which of course viewers will be able to see over Christmas."
Excitement grew in Beverley yesterday when extras dressed in Georgian costumes were spotted making their way to The Guildhall on Register Square.
Crowds gathered shortly after to get a glimpse of the television stars.
One resident said: "This is really exciting for Beverley.
"It's not every day you see a television star walking down the street.
"I will definitely be watching the show when it is on television."
Death Comes To Pemberley will be aired over three parts on BBC One over Christmas.
