A NIGHTMARE neighbour has been banned from her flat after the city council issued only its third antisocial behaviour closure order.

The local authority has taken the drastic action after Jamie Lee Rowbottom, of Bathurst Street, caused misery for her fellow residents.

The council's Neighbourhood Nuisance Team secured the order and moved in on Friday to close up the flat.

It means Ms Rowbottom cannot return to the property over the next three months and no one can occupy the flat in the meantime.

During this period, formal possession proceedings will be taken to have her evicted from the property.

The Neighbourhood Nuisance Team received numerous complaints in relation to drug activity, noise, littering, criminal damage and intimidation of local residents by Ms Rowbottom and visitors to the flat.

One local told the Mail: "It is a relief to know she is out. I hope she doesn't return."

The team conducted an investigation into the complaints and were able to gather sufficient evidence from residents, council staff and Humberside Police to persuade a court to grant the order.

Councillor John Hewitt, portfolio holder for neighbourhoods and communities, said: "Antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated and legal action will be taken to ensure the local community is not subject to this type of harassment or distress.

"This is the third time we have used the powers of a Closure Order since Local Authority Closure Orders were introduced in 2008.

"Where we can, we will use other alternative remedies, such as tenancy enforcement, antisocial behaviour orders and injunctions.

"It is only in rare cases, involving serious and persistent nuisance and disorder, in which residents need immediate respite is a Closure Order sought."

To report antisocial behaviour in your area, call the Neighbourhood Nuisance Team on 01482 300300 or call Humberside Police's non-emergency line on 101.
