Further similar temporary closures are scheduled on Saturday, August 10, and Friday, August 16, before a final closure on Saturday, August 24.

HULL: The second in a series of summer picnics at Hull History Centre will take place on Friday.

WEST HULL: City council planners have refused a retrospective application to install a bamboo canopy around a café's outdoor seating area.

The canopy outside the Ali Baba café in Prices Avenue was constructed recently with planning permission.

A supporting statement submitted by the cafe's architectural agents describes it as a "sensitive design" but council planning officers have now refused a retrospective application seeking approval after receiving objections to the structure.

One objector labelled the canopy as "a diabolical eyesore".

Hosted by the Hull Council for Voluntary Services, the afternoon course on Monday is appropriate for anyone who works with food or who has an interest in improving their diet.

It runs from 1pm to 4pm at the CVS building in Beverley Road.
