Sharp increase in thefts of farm oil and fuel
EAST YORKS: Farmers across the region have reported an increase in the number of thefts of fuel and heating oil.
Police have stepped up patrols, particularly in rural areas, to tackle the problem. Officers are also advising people to make sure they keep their premises locked, particularly during the summer months, when criminals will take advantage of insecure windows and doors.

EAST YORKS: An elderly couple were taken to hospital following a crash in South Ferriby on Saturday morning.
The woman passenger was cut free from the car and taken to hospital with pelvic and spinal injuries. The elderly male suffered cuts and bruises and was also taken to hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
EAST YORKS: Six people were rescued from the River Humber on Saturday, after their boat got stuck on some land.
Humber Rescue were called just after noon to rescue the people from the vessel, which had come aground on Reads Island, close to South Ferriby. The passengers, including two children, were all evacuated by the rescue team.
The 27ft vessel, named Harmony, was then taken back to Hull Marina. No one was injured.
EAST YORKS: A 52-year-old Driffield man was airlifted to Hull Royal Infirmary on Friday following a crash in Lincolnshire.
The crash happened on the A18 near Ludborough just after 5.15pm. The biker was in collision with a silver Mitsubishi car.
The man remains in intensive care with leg and abdomen injuries.
