IT IS official ... People in Hull love their sleep.
In a recent survey, the city was one of the top three sleepiest and laziest cities in the UK.
On average, a person in Hull will sleep for 8.9 hours a night.
The only cities to top this were Swansea, with an average of 9.2 hours, and Inverness, with an average of 9.1 hours.
The survey was carried out by foam mattress firm Ergoflex UK.
There were mixed reviews from people shopping in the city centre yesterday, following the results of the survey.
Bill Smith, 68, of west Hull, said: "There's nothing for people to get up for now, there are no jobs and when they do have jobs, they're mostly underpaid. It's no wonder Hull is the 'sleepiest'."
Meanwhile, Marion Rackley, of Cottingham, did not agree with the survey.
She said: "All our family work very hard.
"Younger people have become lazier than they used to be because there is nothing for them to do and hardly any jobs.
"I was born in Hull and, when I returned here about 40 years ago, there was a significant change among the attitudes of younger people. There are no youth clubs like there used to be and nothing really to do."
While Swansea residents top the sleep charts, people in Inverness head to bed the earliest, at 9.35pm.
People in Bath reported having the best night of sleep meanwhile, with 64 per cent rating their 8.7 hours as "very good".
Jed MacEwan, managing director at Ergoflex UK, said: "Sleep is something that unites us all as a nation, but we wanted to look into the bedtime habits that made us different from region to region; exposing those of us who love our sleep, and those who put it on the back burner.
"Our results show that not all of us are getting our recommended eight hours per night, with Londoners taking the hardest hit, and there definitely seems to be a correlation between bustling cities and a lack of sleep."
