THE fire service is prepared for flooding after a severe weather warning issued earlier by the Met Office.
Although no emergency plans have been put in place, the service is ready to respond, a spokeswoman said.
The latest forecasts suggest some parts of East Yorkshire could see heavy showers early this evening, followed later by a further band of rain.
Tomorrow will see skies brightening by midday, with an afternoon of sunny spells and a few scattered heavy showers.
Friday will see scattered showers, some heavy, and a chance of thunder.
The fire service spokeswoman said: "We are aware of possible heavy downpours in the East Riding.
"Should it escalate, we will assess that as it happens.
"We are not putting any extra resources anywhere at the moment but we will reassess if necessary."
Sandbags and emergency pumps remain on standby to deal with rural floods, East Riding Council has said.
Nigel Leighton, director of environment and neighbourhood services at the council, said: "There's the likelihood of a thunderstorm over the next few days.
"We've got sandbags ready just in case."
About 150 flood alleviation schemes have been built in the last few years, he said, and 50 weather monitoring devices have been erected in trouble spots to provide an early warning of rising water.
