THE Royal baby has been revealed to the world.
A beaming Duke and Duchess of Cambridge left hospital briefly to show off their new son, wrapped in a shawl.
The couple and their new baby were met with wild cheers as they emerged from St Mary's Hospital in Paddington where the baby was born on Tuesday afternoon.
The duke joked with reporters and well-wishers and admitted the couple still hadn't chosen a name for the prince.
The duchess, cradling her son before handing him carefully to her husband, said the birth had been an "emotional time."
She added: "It's very emotional and such a special time and I think any parent will probably know what this feeling feels like."
Asked about his son, who weighed 8lb 6 ounces, the duke said: "Well, he's got a good pair of lungs on him, that's for sure. He's a big boy, quite heavy."
And he said a name had still to be decided.
"We're still working on a name," he said. "So we will have that as soon as we can.
He went on: "It's the first time we've seem him, really, so we're having a proper chance to catch up."
Looking at his wife, William said: "He has her looks thankfully," But Kate replied with a smile: "No, no, no, I'm not sure about that."
Asked how he felt, William said: "Very emotional."
He added: "Hopefully the hospital and you guys can all go back to normal now and we're going to look after him"
Asked about the baby's hair, William added: "He's got way more than me, thank God."
After waving to well-wishers, the new parents then returned to the hospital to thank staff. After placing their son in a car seat, a few minutes later they came outside again and the duke drove his family home to Kensington Palace.
Earlier in the afternoon, the couple were visited by the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, who had flown in from their visit to East Yorkshire.
Prince Charles said the baby was "marvellous".
Kate's parents, Carole and Michael Middleton also visited the hospital. Mrs Middleton said his grandson was "absolutely beautiful".
And speaking to reporters as they left the hospital, Mrs Middleton said: "We are so thrilled".
