A large blow-up "whale" sparked a rescue alert on the Humber estuary yesterday.
Coastguard crews rushed to Hessle Foreshore after a member of the public reported seeing a beached whale.
However, when a coastguard team went to investigate, they found it was an inflatable being used in a training exercise.
A HM Coastguard spokesman said: "We had a report from a vessel that there was a beached whale on Hessle Foreshore.
"But we found out it was the British Divers Marine Life Rescue team doing an exercise down there.
"Unfortunately, they hadn't told us they would be doing training, so we went to see what had happened.
"Fortunately, one of our coastguard team was near the area, so he was able to get down there fairly quickly, and soon realised what it was."
British Divers Marine Life Rescue is an organisation dedicated to the rescue and wellbeing of all marine animals in distress.
