Paul Cooke: Top six finish for Hull KR would be one of greatest achievements

HULL KR return to Super League action at Warrington on Sunday having recently put themselves in with a great chance of not only making the top eight, but finishing higher than anyone at the red and whites could have dreamed of. Their run-in, on paper alone, looks extremely tough, and that underlines the huge importance of their five successive wins. That recent run of good form could be hugely significant come round 27. In their final six fixtures KR face three of the current top four, as well as the small matter of a derby with Hull FC. Should Rovers finish in the top six places it will be, in my opinion, one of the biggest achievements of any coach and group of players in the whole of Super League. They've been given no chance by anyone, me included, of finishing inside the top eight, let alone pushing for the top four heading into the last six games. Without question, this weekend sees the two form teams in Super League go head-to-head at the Halliwell Jones Stadium. KR boast a very impressive five consecutive wins, disposing of Huddersfield at home and Catalan and St Helens away in that time. The Wolves boast a run of seven consecutive victories, stretching back when Hull FC beat them up on their own patch. Rovers will be wondering if they can catch the Wolves with one eye on the cup, and it will be interesting to see if Tony Smith rests a few of his big stars for the weekend after. If any players are carrying slight knocks I'm certain Smith won't risk them, and this could be music to the red and whites' ears. However, on the flip side, those who come in may well be playing for one or two places which are still up for grabs for the big semi-final. The home team line-up will certainly make interesting reading, but given he has a six-point cushion to play with in the league ladder between themselves in third and Leeds in fourth, I expect a no-risk approach. Regardless of all that, Craig Sandercock and his men will fancy their chances. They are a confident bunch and undoubtedly a tight-knit group who are revelling in proving most from outside their organisation wrong. For me, Warrington start as favourites, and regardless of the team selection I feel they will have enough to win this game. It's Warrington by 14 for me, with the man to watch Micky Higham, as he is playing some of the best rugby in his illustrious career around the ruck.
