A MAN has been knocked off his bike by a skip lorry in Hull city centre.
Eye-witnesses said the 42-year-old cyclist had been travelling west along Spring Bank when the accident happened shortly after 2pm today, close to the Job Centre Plus office.
A police van had been in queuing traffic at the time, but it is not known if officers witnessed the collision.
John Hamilton, of Plane Street, west Hull, who had been waiting for a friend outside the Job Centre, witnessed the moment of impact.
He said: "It was disgusting. I thought he was dead. The guy seemed to bounce when the bike was hit by the lorry.
"A doctor was close by. She and I rushed over to him. She told him to stay still and then checked him over. Someone called an ambulance. I took his backpack off and laid it down next to him, so the doctor could check him."
A Mail reporter witnessed the cyclist, who appeared to have suffered only minor injuries, being helped into the back of an ambulance as police officers took statements.
The front tyre of the white mountain bike was bent almost double. The frame was buckled.
Police reopened the road within an hour and traffic is flowing freely again.
Anyone who witnessed the accident and has not already spoken to police is asked to call 101.
